{"id":1786,"date":"2024-07-14T19:08:44","date_gmt":"2024-07-14T17:08:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/polyrene.fr\/publications_science\/adequacy-of-care-for-patients-with-multiple-disabilities-in-the-french-healthcare-system-a-study-of-782-patients\/"},"modified":"2024-07-14T19:08:44","modified_gmt":"2024-07-14T17:08:44","slug":"adequacy-of-care-for-patients-with-multiple-disabilities-in-the-french-healthcare-system-a-study-of-782-patients","status":"publish","type":"publications_science","link":"https:\/\/polyrene.fr\/en\/publications_science\/adequacy-of-care-for-patients-with-multiple-disabilities-in-the-french-healthcare-system-a-study-of-782-patients\/","title":{"rendered":"Adequacy of care for patients with multiple disabilities in the French healthcare system: A study of 782 patients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Rousseau MC, Billette de Villemeur T, Khaldi-Cherif S, Brisse C, Felce A, Baumstarck K, Auquier P, French Polyhandicap Group.<\/p>\n<p>PLoS One. 2018 6;13(7):e0199986. doi: 10.1371\/journal.pone.0199986. eCollection 2018.<\/p>\n<h2>Mediation\/Education :<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This article looks at the question of whether the care system is appropriate to the age and severity of people with multiple disabilities.  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two main types of care are offered in France, depending on the severity of the disability:  <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Facilities specializing in Medical and Rehabilitation Care (SMR): offering a high level of medical and paramedical care and prevention of complications<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Medical-social establishments (MS): offering a high level of educational and psychosocial care<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The aim of this article was to document the adequacy of care for 782 multi-disabled people accommodated in four SMR and nine MS facilities (2015-16).  <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The adequacy of care was assessed on the basis of:  <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Two objective indicators: is the person in the right structure for his or her severity? <\/span><b>severity <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">their condition and <\/span><b>age<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">  <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\">Three subjective indicators: the referring physician&#8217;s assessment of i) the adequacy of <b style=\"color: #111111; font-size: 1rem;\">medical care<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, ii) the adequacy of <\/span><b style=\"color: #111111; font-size: 1rem;\">educational care<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and iii) the<\/span><b style=\"color: #111111; font-size: 1rem;\"> need for a change of structure<\/b>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The results of the study showed that the adequacy of care, according to the indicators studied, was more respected in SMR structures than in MS structures.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These preliminary results provide a substantial and innovative description of support for people with multiple disabilities in terms of the match between the person&#8217;s characteristics and the places where they are cared for.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Longitudinal and medico-economic studies could complement these results.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rousseau MC, Billette de Villemeur T, Khaldi-Cherif S, Brisse C, Felce A, Baumstarck K, Auquier P, French Polyhandicap Group.
